When to go

Spring and autumn are Yonago’s star turns, bringing cherry blossom from late March and fiery foliage around Mount Daisen in October and November. Summer is hot and humid, but comes alive with the lanterns, taiko drums and fireworks of the Gaina Festival.

Getting there

  • Planes

Yonago Kitaro Airport is around 20 minutes from central Yonago by train or airport bus. Direct flights from Tokyo Haneda take around 80 minutes, with international links from Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong. If arriving from further afield, fly via Tokyo or another connecting Asian hub.
  • Trains

Yonago Station is well connected by rail. From Tokyo, take the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen to Okayama, then change onto the Limited Express Yakumo for the scenic journey north to Yonago, which takes around two hours.
  • Automobiles

You won't need a car for central Yonago, but hiring one gives you more freedom to explore western Tottori. Rental desks are available at Yonago Kitaro Airport and around the city; Mount Daisen is around 45 minutes’ drive away.
