Luxury holidays in Andermatt

Andermatt has welcomed a diverse crowd since its inception as a spa town in the 1800s, from womanising spies to stern-faced monarchs, but since 2007, it’s been welcoming something else – investment. The result? cutting-edge architecture, renewed sustainability efforts and, you guessed it, some serious slopes.

When to go

Andermatt’s ski season runs annually from mid November to late April, but there is plenty to enjoy in the summer months too; who needs a beach when you’ve got idyllic mountain lakes, right?

Getting there

  • Planes

    The closest international hub is Zurich Airport. Flights arrive here from the UK and Europe, USA and the Americas, Asia and Africa. From here, Andermatt is reachable by train in two and a half hours, or by car in 90 minutes.

  • Automobiles

    Good news for step counters; the village centre is car-free, so you can let your daily 10k take care of itself. The bad news? That means no high-speed car chases – sorry, James.
