September and October are quieter, milder months to visit this world-famous monument. June through August are pleasantly hot but also peak season for visitors.

  Rapid City Regional Airport is around 40 minutes away by road, with connecting flights from Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City.

• Automobiles

  A car will come in handy for exploring the local area. Mount Rushmore National Memorial doesn’t charge an entry fee for vehicles, but you’ll need to pay to park.
