A couple hours’ drive from Cape Town, and an excellent pit-stop on a road trip through the winelands and to Hermanus, Stanford is a charming heritage village in the Western Cape.
Arrive around November and you might see flamingoes and whales (both seasonal treats in Stanford). Otherwise, August is the sweet spot for sun and just-right temperatures.
Getting there
Planes
Fly into Cape Town – Stanford is about a two-hour drive away.
Automobiles
You’ll need a car to navigate the wild terrain (a four-wheel drive for some more rugged roads). Or – even better – hire a local driver so you can sip with abandon at wine tastings.
