Luxury holidays in Volcanoes National Park
You’ll find Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda’s rainforest-dense north, home to the Virunga volcano chain, mist-laced peaks and bird-soundtracked trails. Its most illustrious draw, however, is the chance to encounter endangered mountain gorillas, which the park actively protects through conservation and community projects.
When to go
The region has two dry seasons — June to September and December to February — which offer just-right trekking and gorilla-tracking conditions.
Getting there
-
Planes
It’s at least a three-hour drive from Kigali International Airport to Musanze, the gateway village to the national park. A helicopter transfer from Kigali to Bisate, which is on the north-west fringes of the park, takes less than 30 minutes. -
Automobiles
You’ll most likely want to put someone else in the driving seat, and your camp will be able to arrange road or helicopter transfers between the airport and safari stays.
