Luxury holidays in Ludovisi

Named after one of Rome’s most powerful noble families, Ludovisi has inherited a taste for the finer things. Via Veneto still trades on its silver-screen heyday, when Hollywood stars and paparazzi made this boulevard their playground; and grand hotels and cafés keep the dolce vita spirit alive. The art-filled galleries and shaded gardens of Villa Borghese promise a slower pace; the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain are also a short stroll away.

When to go

April, May, September and October are made for strolls through Villa Borghese and aperitivi along Via Veneto. July and August bring sweltering sightseeing conditions; winter promises a more leisurely taste of la dolce vita.

Getting there

  • Planes

Rome has two airports: Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino, the main international gateway, and Ciampino, which serves mainly European budget airlines. Fiumicino is around 45 minutes from Ludovisi by taxi, or take the 30-minute Leonardo Express to Roma Termini.
  • Trains

High-speed Frecciarossa and Italo trains connect Rome with Florence (90 minutes), Naples (70 minutes), Milan (three hours) and Venice (under four hours). From Roma Termini, take Metro Line A to Barberini for Via Veneto and the heart of Ludovisi.
  • Automobiles

Driving in Ludovisi is best avoided: Rome’s limited parking and restricted-traffic zones make a hire car more hindrance than help.
