Luxury holidays in Ras Abrouq

As tarmac gives way to dust on Qatar’s northwestern coast, Ras Abrouq unfolds — a wind-sculpted coastal desert where limestone sentinels stand watch over the shore, inviting laidback beach days and arid adventures. Before star-studded Arabian nights unfold, spot oryx and gazelles grazing, sip sundowners and dine against a backdrop of sunset-tinted dunes. For the early risers, a sunrise dip or hot-air balloon ride will deliver the same ethereal magic.

When to go

The summer months (June to September) sizzle with dry heat. Winter temperatures are the pleasant side of hot (November to February), with surprisingly cool mornings and evenings.

Getting there

  • Planes

Doha is the closest international airport; from there, it’s a 90-minute drive to Ras Abrouq. As there aren’t sealed roads to take you all the way to the coast, renting a 4WD or arranging suitable transfers is advisable.
  • Automobiles

Ras Abrouq is off the beaten track so you’ll need a suitable 4WD to tackle the sandy terrain. This and the fact that SatNav can be temperamental in these parts make chauffeured transfers our strong recommendation.
