Italy’s at its loveliest in spring or autumn (wine-harvesting season), and Ugento is no exception.

Getting there

• Planes

  Bari or Brindisi airports are both well-connected hubs for the region. The former is a two-and-a-half-hour drive, the latter 90 minutes.

• Trains

  Ride to Lecce train station from Bari or Brindisi, and you’re a 40-minute drive from Ugento.

• Automobiles

  You’ll need a car to ride through the Pugliese countryside. Public transport is scant here, non-existent in some spots.
