Luxury holidays in 17th arrondissement

It’s easy to overlook some of Paris’ periphery districts, such as the 17th arrondissement, in favour of the city’s central favourites. But this northwestern borough is bordered by bucket-list spots — Parc Monceau, Place Charles de Gaulle, Pigalle. And there’s plenty to sample within its embrace, too, with a patchwork of local ‘hoods, such as wine-bar-dotted Batignolles and village-like Ternes.

When to go

Spring and autumn bring just-right weather for wandering the area; Paris is particularly romantic in winter, when you can cosy up in local cafés and date-night-worthy bistros.

Getting there

  • Planes

Paris’ Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports are each a 30-minute drive from this leafy district.
  • Trains

The city’s Gare du Nord, Gare de L’Est and Gare Montparnasse are each a 25-minute drive from the 17th arrondissement; a ride on the Métro to Ternes takes a similar amount of time. Pont Cardinet station is at the heart of the district; from here, rail routes can take you to Versailles.
  • Automobiles

Driving in Paris might make you shout sacré bleu — opt for taxis, walking or public transport instead.
