Luxury holidays in Elora

The historic Elora village you find today in Centre Wellington grew up around Ontario’s 19th-century milling industry, but has now left the grind behind to welcome weekending Torontonians. A flourishing center of galleries, boutiques and dining and drinking spots underpins its allure — with Elora Gorge Conservation Area, tubing and fishing on the Grand River, and wild swimming at the quarry awaiting those in search of fresh-air-dosed forays.

When to go

The summer months of July and August will suit water babies who want to dip in the quarry or try tubing. Land lovers will appreciate the fall color of late September and October.

Getting there

  • Planes

Toronto Pearson International, around an 80-minute drive from Elora, is your nearest airport for arrivals from further afield. For domestic flights, Region of Waterloo Airport is a closer 35 minutes away by car.
  • Automobiles

For a weekend in Elora, you won’t need a car to enjoy its highlights. Elora Gorge is around 30 minutes on foot (or a short drive) from the center of town, and a set of wheels will help you to explore more distant corners of Ontario during longer stays.
