Luxury holidays in Sossusvlei

In the Namib-Naukluft National Park, a salt-and-clay pan is flanked by red dunes, their colour deepened by centuries of iron-rich winds. Deadvlei lies in stark contrast — a bone-white basin where 900-year-old camelthorn trees stand scorched and leafless. Encounters with desert-adapted wildlife and thrilling night skies await.

When to go

Sossusvlei is a year-round destination; from November to May, it’s rainy season, so for the driest experience, it’s best to visit between June and September.

Getting there

  • Planes

The closest international airport is Hosea Kutako in the capital, Windhoek, from where you can either self-drive or take onward air transfers arranged by your safari camp.
  • Automobiles

If you’re coming from the capital, Windhoek, it’s a five-hour drive to reach Sossusvlei and you’ll need 4WD. What the route lacks in brevity, it compensates for with shifting desert views.
