Luxury holidays in Gaafu Alifu Atoll

The Maldives, an archipelagic state in South Asia, is loved for its kaleidoscopic coral reefs and underwater wonders. The southern Huvadhoo Atoll is more remote than other regions, requiring a domestic flight and speedboat to access most of the islands and resorts; but those who make the journey will be rewarded with clean waters, untouched coral reefs and thriving ocean colonies. The northern district of Huvadhoo is also referred to as Gaafu Alifu – and is one of the largest and deepest atolls in the country. It’s sunshine-blessed thanks to its proximity to the equator, with endless azure waters to cool off in.

When to go

The Maldives has a wonderfully warm year-round climate, though the Gaafu Alifu Atoll tends to get most of its rainfall in November. There’s never a ‘bad’ time to visit, but Christmas is particularly popular, while March through to October is quieter.
