Knightsbridge, United Kingdom
It may be best explored with a bulging wallet, but even the short on cash will relish a stroll through Knightsbridge’s elegant streets and storied department stores. Droves of tourists are drawn to the exquisitely dressed windows of Harrods and Harvey Nichols (both within 500 metres of each other on the busy Brompton Road – close enough for a spree), and to count the super-cars lined up by the pavement. The well-heeled come here to be well fed at lavish eateries: drop your annual wage on dinner at Bar Boulud (it’s worth it…), or sample the signature ‘meatfruit’ (whimsically presented chicken-liver parfait) at Heston’s Dinner restaurant. One of Knightsbridge’s best-loved distractions won’t cost a penny: a stroll in Hyde Park on a crisp, September morning is welcome break from city madness.
