When to go

The Khomas Region enjoys pleasant temperatures year round; December and January hit peak temperatures of 35°C with little rain, though the cooler months (from May to September) are typically better for safari sightings.

Getting there

• Planes

  Fly straight into Namibia’s main airport – Windhoek Hosea Kutako – and then, for heading into the highlands, rent a car and drive yourself through Khomas’ impressive landscapes.

• Automobiles

  If you’re back can hack vast expanses of gravel roads then driving in Khomas is relatively easy, just rent a car at the airport (perhaps a four-wheel drive if you’re heading out of the city) and explore on your own terms – just be aware of the odd wandering giraffe.
