When to go

Getting there

  • Planes

    If your international flight arrives at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, you can take a domestic hour-long flight to Noto Satoyama Airport, or Komatsu Airport, which is an hour-and-a-half away by car and has some direct international routes, too.

  • Trains

    The Hokuriku shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kanazawa takes between two and three hours. From there, a limited express train calls at Wakuraonsen station, just across the water from Notojima.

  • Automobiles

    It’s unlikely you’ll need a set of wheels: it takes at least six or seven hours to drive to Notojima from Tokyo, or about four hours from Kyoto. For devoted drivers, a spectacular road bridge provides the final flourish to this leg of your Japanese road trip.
