Despite enjoying pleasant year-round temperatures, it may be best to avoid the rainy season (May to October) if you’re planning on browsing the city’s local markets and idyllic cobblestone streets.
Getting there
Planes
Fly direct to Guatemala’s La Aurora airport, where you can hop in a taxi for just under an hour to reach Antigua. If you’re wanting a scenic road trip along Central America’s Pacific coastline, then fly to El Salvador, where you can rent a car and drive around five hours up the coast to Antigua.
Automobiles
While most locals whip around on a scooter, it’s perfectly easy to drive around Antigua and is a great choice if you’re hoping to explore areas outside the city centre. Pick up a rental at La Aurora airport before heading west to the city.
