Luxury holidays in Skiathos

Certainly the most tourist-ready of the northern Sporades islands, Skiathos is easily the most beautiful too, with undulating, pine-coated hills that fan out towards butter-soft beaches – some of Greece’s finest – fringing turquoise Aegean waters. Away from the souvenir shacks and package-holiday crowds of Skiathos town, you’ll find charming Byzantine streets, hillside hiking trails and storied, white-washed churches squirreled away in quiet squares.

When to go

Most hotels are open from April to October, with the most popular being July and August (when prices inevitably rise). To beat the crowds, we recommend May or September stays.

Getting there

  • Planes

Skiathos International Airport (JSI), also known as Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport, is to the east of the island, 30 minutes away by car.
  • Boats

Ferry routes from port towns in mainland Greece such as Agios Konstantinos (two hours from Athens), Thessaloniki and Volos connect with Skiathos and the neighbouring Northern Sporades islands.
  • Automobiles

You can organise car rental from the airport, which will be useful if you plan on spending lots of time in Skiathos town or striking out to explore some of the island’s more secluded beaches.
