Luxury holidays in Sithonia Peninsula

The central prong in Halkidiki’s fork, Sithonia is a pine-covered peninsula where forested hills melt into sugar-soft sands and the sun-warmed Aegean. In tiny fishing villages, tavernas turn out the day’s catch alongside sweet treats drizzled with pine-infused honey, a local speciality. Beach bars and sand-side resorts are in easy reach, but beyond them there are hidden coves and ice-blue lagoons to stumble upon. Out at sea, even more adventure beckons: set sail from Ormos Panagias for the holy Mount Athos, or strike out from Vourvourou to dive coral reefs among a rockstrewn archipelago.

When to go

May and June have the holy trinity of warm weather, quieter beaches and off-peak prices. Busy July and August boast the hottest temperatures, but head over in September or October to catch late sun and still-warm waters.

Getting there

  • Planes

Flights touch down at Thessaloniki Airport from three London hubs (Gatwick, Stansted and Luton), along with Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and a host of other cities across Europe. Many routes operate a seasonal timetable, with even more options available in high season. From the airport, it’s around a 70-minute drive to Vourvourou.
  • Automobiles

A car will come in handy for finding far-flung beaches. Hire one at the airport and enjoy sweeping coastal views as you scout out your next sunning spot.
