Luxury holidays in Bavaria

Though Bavaria may fulfil Germanic daydreams of Lederhosen(ed)-up locals and Alps to inspire The Sound of Music singalongs, the southeastern region has very much retained its unique identity and humbling free spirit. Head beyond Munich and you’ll find traditional towns, where rustic meals are determined by the seasons and local beers are still brewed in tandem with ancient Bavarian traditions. Spend summer days lazing by Lake Bodensee, ogle the pointy-turreted Neuschwanstein Castle, hike to the dramatic Scheidegger Wasserfälle, or – if that’s all sounding a little too adventurous – then kick back with a dark Dunkel and comfort-plate of käsespätzle (a sort of Tyrolean gnocchi).

Destinations in Bavaria

  • The Bavarian Allgäu region in southern Germany has the kind of scenery that might have you humming ‘The hills are alive…’ as you twirl through mountain meadows.
  • In the Bavarian Alps, in southern Germany, alpine pastures stretch beneath towering peaks, and frescoed, timber-clad villages are linked by winding cobblestone streets.
