Luxury holidays in Val Thorens

Part of Les Trois Vallées, the fast, vast skiing wonderland in the French Alps, Val Thorens is one of Europe’s highest ski resorts, so powder is practically a sure thing from November to May. Up here, the only thing more dramatic than the angle of the slopes is the heart-stopping scenery of ragged mountain peaks and snow-dusted pines.

When to go

The ski season is from early December until April, with Christmas and school holidays the busiest times. It’s very quiet in the off-peak months, with many hotels and restaurants closing for the summer.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly into either Geneva or Lyon – they’re both 200 kilometres away, and the drive through the mountains will take around two and a half hours.
  • Automobiles

Once you’re here, you’ll spend most of your time on skis, but if you want a car for day trips, hire one at the airport.
