Luxury holidays in Hossegor
Perched on Europe’s longest stretch of sand, seaside town Hossegor draws surfers from all over the continent, but is also famous for its lake, sprawling pine forests and wildlife-filled wetlands. Surfing is part of the town’s soul, and remains its greatest draw – on a good day, the swells on this stretch of La Côte d'Argent are considered some of the best in the world. Unsurprisingly, a beachy, laid-back atmosphere reigns supreme, but there’s still plenty for those who aren’t as enamoured of the waves. You can cycle through thick Les Landes forest, boat across Lake Hossegor and sample seafood platters and local oysters in low-key waterfront restaurants. The resort town of Biarritz is just 45 minutes away by car, and you can even day trip across the Spanish border to San Sebastián if you set off early enough.
When to go
Most people visit between May and October, when temperatures are at their warmest and the surfing season is in full swing, bringing the area to life.
