Luxury holidays in Monesterio

Little-known municipality Monesterio lives a life of solitude in western Spain’s rural Extremadura region. Things may run at a slower pace here, but there’s plenty of thrills to seek; quad through the Sierra de Tentudía, hike or bike over chamomile-dotted hills, and horse ride over meadows at sunset. The town’s well-loved for its gastronomy too, and has Jamón Ibérico so renowned it resides in its own museum. Monesterio may not shout about its lures, but its quiet beauty is a draw all on its own.

When to go

Summer temperatures climb towards the end of August, and Monesterio stays sun-kissed until early October.
