When to go

The Ionian coastline is open to visitors seasonally between May and October. Go either side of summer for clement climes and beaches you won’t have to share. July and August bring the best of the weather, with bars and restaurants fully open and its Ionian lapped shores proving utter bliss for beach lovers.

Getting there

• Planes

  Preveza International Airport (also called Aktion) is the southerly gateway to the region. Offshore, Corfu International Airport is well connected, too, with onward ferry or private boat transfers.

• Automobiles

  The roads here are rural, snaking from valley to valley, with all the bends and gradients you’d expect from such panoramic terrain. Self-driving is not for the faint of heart, but will give you the freedom you need to explore the region if the words ‘boat trip’ fill you with dread.
