When to go

July and August are the busiest for tourists, so we prefer June or early September. Temperatures are balmy from Easter through October, though you’ll need to plan ahead: there are less frequent flights and ferries in the quieter months.

Getting there

• Planes

  Both Easyjet and Ryanair fly direct to Rhodes and Kos. You can reach Astypalaia, Kalymnos, and Karpathos by domestic flights from Athens.

• Boats

  The islands are connected by ferry and hydrofoil.

• Automobiles

  We’d hire a car for exploring Rhodes and Kos, but you can easily scoot around the smaller islands on a rented moped.
