Luxury holidays in Bale

Hidden eight kilometres inland and secluded from the summer Rovinj rush, Bale is Croatia’s esoteric summer destination. Revel in the solitude of small town life, often washed out by flocking tourists, without straying too far from the Colone Cove beach and the country’s characteristic cyan-cast shores. Walk through Bale’s narrow cobbled streets, lined with fading yellow-bricked houses and bleached shutters that flutter in the warm wind, or take in the region’s rich Venetian history with a trip to the hallowed halls of 16th-century Soardo-Bembo Palace. Sun-seekers can head down to one of San Polo’s white-pebbled beaches before heading back for a sunset aperitif.

When to go

Visit during the summer months when temperatures float around 30 degrees and the sea is at its warmest. September and October is a good (still warm) alternative for those hoping to escape the holiday crowds.

Getting there
