There’s no bad time to escape to the Cotswolds; spring and summer are perfect for sunny strolls, Broadway’s prized horse-chestnut trees sport golden hues (and conkers) in the autumn, and winter snow transforms the village into a Christmas-card-worthy wonderland.   The nearest international airport is Birmingham, around an hour’s drive away. Fly there from European cities including Dublin, Frankfurt, Paris and Rome; direct intercontinental flights from Dubai, New York and more touch down there, too.

• Trains

  Regular trains from London Paddington to nearby Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh make reaching Broadway by train a breeze. Both towns have handy bus services to Broadway; otherwise, it’s only a 10-mile drive or taxi ride.

• Automobiles

  It’s a straightforward two-and-a-half-hour drive from London via the M40, or a little over an hour from Birmingham. Take or hire your own wheels to explore neighbouring villages and make the most of the dreamy country-lane drives.
