Luxury and boutique hotels on the French Riviera

The French Riviera is ideal for those who want lungfuls of fresh air, wild swims and bracing mountain hikes; and also for those who want to wallow in rosé, hobnob with St Tropez’ and Cannes’ glitterati, and eat platefuls of straight-from-the-Med seafood. La Croix-Valmer has a fine balance of both: you can trek over the Massif de Maures mountains, swim or go scuba diving in the sea, then laze on a beach before dinner and drinks. Windsurfing, kayaking and biking will keep you busy too. But, however you spend your day, be sure to find a good perch for sunset – they’re true head-turners here.

When to go

June to August are La Croix-Valmer’s busiest months and can be a little too hot for hearty outdoor adventuring. Try for late spring and autumn to commune with nature in peace.

Getting there

  • Planes

Fly to Nice Airport, a 90-minute drive from the commune; or land at Marseille a little further along the coast (around a two-hour drive).
  • Trains

Trains frequently run back and forth from Nice to SNCF station St Raphaël-Valescure, a 50-minute drive away.
  • Automobiles

This is a fresh-air and outdoorsy-fun destination, but a car is handy for cruising along the coast. Pick one up at either Nice or Marseille airports.
