Luxury holidays in Barichara

The rocky canyonlands and riverine valleys of this dramatically beautiful stretch of the Colombian Andes may have you convinced you’re out in the wilds. And yet Barichara is a welcome pocket of civilisation, characterised by cobbled streets and terracotta-tiled colonial-style architecture, with a smattering of shops and dining spots to divert you before you set out on hiking, biking or rafting adventures.

When to go

Thanks to its tropical co-ords, Barichara is warm throughout the year, with December through April being its driest months.

Getting there

  • Planes

Colombia’s Palonegro Airport in Bucaramanga is the nearest international hub, three-and-a-half hours from Barichara. For private touchdowns, San Gil’s Los Pozos Airport is 35 minutes away by road.
  • Automobiles

Mountain roads and sometimes unpredictable fellow drivers make chauffeured transfers and taxis your best options for getting around by road.
