Luxury holidays in Okavango Delta

Where riverine forests and floodplains meet, so do lion, elephant and buffalo in northern Botswana’s wild Okavango Delta. Summer’s high water levels allow for boat safaris and mokoro canoe cruises, but game drives and nature walks are year-round staples. This rugged region is also home to stellar sunrises and -sets, sprawling landscapes and conservation-driven communities.

When to go

The Delta tempts in most months: November to February sees a flurry of calving and predator activity; June to August has high water levels for boating and birdlife; September and October are warm, green and dry, with continued wildlife sightings.

Getting there

  • Planes

Kasane or Maun’s international airports are the closest to the Delta; your safari hosts can arrange onward small-plane charters or helicopter transfers to your camp’s local airstrip.
  • Automobiles

Driving is best left to your safari guides and camp hosts; the Delta is accessed mainly by air.
