When to go

A season-proof city centre, Binnenstad always entertains — at its most popular in spring and summer, when blue skies and warmer temperatures entice. Winter warms the heart with festive twinkle; but for a brooding, quieter city break, autumn escapes win.

Getting there

  • Planes

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is 30 minutes by car from Binnenstad. Alternatively, continue your journey by train to Centraal Station, which has direct services (around 20 minutes long) from the airport.
  • Trains

Centraal Station is a major European rail hub, with international services connecting Amsterdam to Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Berlin.
  • Automobiles

Two wheels good, four wheels bad, in this famed city of cyclists and maze-like storied streets with limited car access. Stick to public transport and bicycles if at all possible.
