Set in the heart of the timeless, tranquil village of Castle Combe, the exterior of Mead Cottage projects an image of the quintessential Cotswolds. Step inside, however, and you’ll find that the warm, honey-coloured stonework and ancient timbers have been skilfully blended with the chicest of contemporary interiors. With only two double bedrooms, the house is ideal for an intimate escape in splendid, rural surroundings. If you don’t want to lift a finger, Mead Cottage’s location within the immaculate grounds of the Manor House Hotel means you can order your pick of the room service menu.

  • Booking process Smith deposit taken when you book. A non-refundable deposit of 25 per cent of the rental fee on reservation, with the balance due four weeks before arrival. Limited refunds are available if you cancel between eight and 31 days before arrival. A housekeeping deposit of £150 is payable on arrival.
  • Also The cottage is decorated with fantastic contemporary Aboriginal art; contact the owners if you are interested in buying some. No smoking in the cottage, and pets are not permitted.

    Bedroom 1: large master bedroom with open-plan en suite bathroom and mezzanine dressing room.

    Bedroom 2: double or twin bedroom with a fascinating ‘Russian Doll’ dresser by Paul Johnson of bloq.co.uk.

  • Kitchen

    The fully equipped kitchen has an oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, washing machine and dryer. Tea, coffee and picnic equipment are provided. If you are self-catering and need to stock up, see the ‘Services’ section.
  • Living room

    The living room is contemporary but full of traditional touches such as thick wood beams and stone fireplaces. A Scandinavian wood-burning stove sits in one fireplace and an antique grate in the other. There is a flat screen TV and a library of DVDs and CDs.
  • Dining room

    The dining table is in a vaulted alcove off the living room and has space to seat eight guests. The dining room furniture was designed by Stefan Bench of Pureform.
  • Gardens

    The small terraced garden behind the cottage isn't particularly secluded but it's a great suntrap. There’s a gas-fired barbecue on the patio. The cottage is located on a semi-private road in the grounds of the Manor House Hotel.
  • Private parking

    There is private parking for two cars in the hotel car park near the cottage.

Eating and drinking

The vaulted dining area was once an ice store but has been carefully restored and transformed with atmospheric lighting. The dining table comfortably seats eight. Mead Cottage is self-catering, although guests receive a breakfast bag filled with local produce. They can also order from the neighbouring Manor House Hotel's room-service menu. Guests at the cottage can benefit from hotel rates for the Manor House’s beautiful golf course.

Housekeeping

Bed linen and towels are changed for guests staying for longer than one week. Clean linen and towels can be provided during your stay, but extra housekeeping is charged for.

Entertainment

There is a CD player and CD library in the main living area and a radio in the kitchen. There’s even a waterproof radio in the bathroom.

Provided

Bed linen, duvets and towels. The wood-burning stove and open fire are prepared before guests arrive and there’s a wood store in the garden.

Packing tips

If you’re a keen golfer then you’ll definitely want to bring your clubs; the par three 17th hole at the Manor House course is world-class.
