Welgelegen
Overview
Two of the superior rooms sleep up to three or four guests; family superiors have up to four beds. There’s a baby cot for use in any of the rooms. A R200 charge for children of six and older applies. Babysitting is charged at R30–R40 an hour.
Best for
Babies and up, depending on the availability of child-friendly rooms.
Recommended rooms
Rooms 3 and 7 have extra beds or a sleeper couch. Grace Cottage, about 20 metres from the hotel, has a kitchen and laundry facilities. Children aged under six years stay free; older children stay for R200 (approximately £14), including breakfast.
Activities
There's one DVD player, although you'll have to be quick to borrow it and bring your own DVDs. If you've got a car, there's a wealth of fun to be had in the outdoor world: walk, hike and picnic in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens; watch penguins on Boulder's Beach; swim in Camp's Bay, St James or on Clifton Beach (although the water can be a little 'fresh'); go horse riding on Noordhoek Beach; or ask the hotel for details of quad-biking, white-water rafting and the like...
Swimming pool
There's a small plunge pool with wide steps (parental supervision only).
Meals
Welgelegen only serves breakfast, but staff are well versed on local child-friendly restaurants. Parents are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare and store children's meals.
