Getting there
Villa Donati is in leafy Richmond, a five-minute walk from buzzy Bridge Road and a short tram ride from chic Chapel Street and the Melbourne CBD.
- Planes Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport (www.melbourneairport.com.au) receives daily flights from a wide range of international and domestic carriers. Regular bus shuttle services run between the airport and Southern Cross Station in the CBD (www.skybus.com.au; +61 (0)3 9600 1711), from there you can taxi, train or tram it to the hotel. Alternatively grab a taxi from the airport and you’ll be at Donati’s door within 30 minutes.
- Trains Richmond and East Richmond Stations are both a short stroll from Villa Donati. Check out MetLink(www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au; 131 638) for services to Southern Cross Station or any of the other three main train stations (Flinders, Parliament or Melbourne Central) in the city. It’ll take about ten minutes.
- Automobiles You can hire a car at the airport but parking at Donati is limited and everything is so central that you probably won’t need a car to get about.
- Others Hop on a tram in the city; take number 70 from Flinders Street along Swan Street, or number 48 or 75 from Flinders Street along Bridge Road. All three stop at Church Street. The 79 tram, which runs down Church Street, will get you from North Richmond to the mouth of Luna Park at St Kilda Beach.
