Communal bench seating and shared plates make hot Murray Street newcomer Garagistes (+61 (0)3 6231 0558) a stylish, sociable eatery, with chef Luke Burgess using only organic, biodynamic and sustainable ingredients from local artisan producers, complemented by innovative natural global wines. A short drive from Hobart on Richmond Road in Cambridge, Meadowbank Estate (+61 (0)3 6248 4484) is a bright and airy winery restaurant, with flavoursome plates and wines served by the glass. Further afield, team a catamaran cruise with a trip to Peppermint Bay (+61 (0)3 6267 4088; www.peppermintbay.com.au) on the waterfront at Woodbridge, where local crayfish, oysters and fish are the star attraction (it’s a 35-minute drive from town, if you’d rather stay on dry land).
