The Guestbook

Great weekend with really good staff and great food. The dessert menu was amazing, really creative but tasty food. We went and had lunch at the Star Inn in Harome (www.thestaratharome.co.uk) only five minutes' drive away.  What a stunning gastropub. Had roe deer with kale cooked in juniper. The place has rooms – might put it on my list for next year.

I would strongly recommend the Pheasant Hotel at Harome for wonderful food in an idyllic setting. Only a few miles from the Feversham Arms it makes a great dining alternative and the food is out of this world.

Lovely hotel in beautiful village. Disappointing that use of spa is not free for hotel guests.

We had an amazing lunch at The Star Inn, just down the road from The Feversham Arms in Harome. The food and service were excellent and made for a truly memorable occasion.

Just a step away from The Feversham Arms, visit Cinnamon Twist (+44 (0)7901 701120) for tempting homebaked goodies. Massive meringues, magnificent cheese straws, homebaked bread and sumptuous muffins all await you. Eat them sat on the market cross or treat yourself to a fine picnic, just make sure you get there early enough, when it's all sold, the shop shuts!

We had a delightful weekend at the Feversham Arms, Helmsley, North Yorkshire. The hotel is a much-extended, modernised pub with spa in a sweet market town on the fringes of the North Yorkshire Moors and National Park. Room 19 is worth asking for as it's up its own little staircase and has a charming sitting room with wood-burning stove, a huge comfy bed, two televisions and a good stock of DVDs, books and CDs. The Heat Treat in the spa was enjoyed by my man while I had an excellent massage and there is lots to see and do all around. Highly recommended.

We approached Helmsley from Thirsk anticipating our arrival to be just a few minutes after this norhtern market town. However, the sign at Thirsk, which says 4 miles, is out by 10 miles (clearly a number one was missing or the local council was trying to cut back!) so the journey took longer. This served to build our excitement further. We had left our five children in the care of relatives and were looking forward to a sumptuous weekend. The Feversham Arms did not dissappoint. We took room 32 and it was superb, lavishly appointed and with a bed large enough to accommodate all of the pent up desire accumulated during a hectic time at home and work! On Saturday morning we refueled with Yorkshire's finest breakfast fare and then walked to the beautiful abbey ruins at Riveaux. The walk is a six-mile round trip walk which was well worth the effort as we took advantage of a lovely clear crisp winter morning. The hotel is a dleoght, as is Helmsley and surrounds. Top tip is to have afternoon tea in the Crown Hotel, where they serve a superb array of cakes and specialitiy teas. A January must is a swim in the Feversham's heated outdoor pool before a late breakfast in bed.

The spa, although small, is perfectly proportioned! I had an amazing experience in the spa, the customer service was excellent and the treatment was exquisite! I would strongly recommend it. The hotel restaurant was excellent but if you fancy a real country pub atmosphere (and a bargain dinner), try the Royal Oak at 7 Market Place (+44 (0)1423 865880).
