The Guestbook
A stunning residence, which we would highly recommend to anybody. Very comfortable. Its a long time since we had such a restful sleep outside of our own bed at home, with exceptionally helpful staff. Neil, the Concierge, and Katie on Reception to name but two. Every recommendation that they made, whether for meals entertainment or where to go, was spot on. Nothing was too much effort. We rarely go somewhere and have nothing to say on a developmental basis, but this is one such occasion. We didn't want to leave and will most definitely return.

This hotel is so amazing and attentive, it is unbelievable. We arrived on the day of our booking only to find out that the MMS system has actually booked us in the day before, by mistake. The hotel thought we were a no-show that day but were incredibly accommodating, shuffling things around and making it possible for us to stay that day after all. The staff are tremendously helpful and friendly, the accommodation is first class, and on this occasion we had brought time with us, so that we could actually just enjoy the apartment and pretend we are locals in Edinburgh for a day. Fantastic place.

We came to Edinburgh for a charity event and what better way to spend the night but in the Chester Residence? We had the Mews Suite with our friends, who stayed in the second bedroom. It is an amazing place – such high standards and finishing on absolutely everything. The complimentary Nespresso coffee is a real treat too. True five-star accommodation with big comfy beds, large ensuites in each room and, if that wasn't enough to pamper yourself, there is an extra bathroom with such an extraordinary bath tub, one could nearly swim in it. Well, ok, a kid could, but it was still really big. It's the sort of accommodation that tempts you to just stay in. Would definitely like to come back, perhaps with no plans for the night other than to enjoy the benefits of the apartment itself. Lock yourselves in and enjoy all the gadgets. We had a massive lounge where one could comfortably seat at least 10 people on the couch. The apartment was such a lush experience – the location and staff are excellent, too. There is an iPod dock, large flatscreen TV, amazingly equipped kitchen and just luxury all round. A must for any business traveller, as well as for romantic stays, where you can pamper yourselves.

We chanced upon a great restaurant on West Preston Street - Hanedan. It is a small Turkish restaurant with a great atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Go for the Kofte or Lamb Shish

We made the most of Edinburgh. Walked up to Calton Hill. Wandered the Royal Mile. Peered into Mary King's Close (the underground city). Shopped on George Street. Brunched in Tigerlily (sit in the booths). Cocktailed in The Rutland Hotel. Heard the crowd roar at Murrayfield (completely unmissable, if only to bellow out 'Flower of Scotland'). Ate in the apartments.
Above all though, we stayed in the Chester Residence which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anybody who will listen. Absolute indulgence, flawless service. It makes such a difference to have a full (and state of the art) apartment for a three-day stay. The space was fabulous. The standard and attention that they have poured into everything is to the complete benefit of the guests. Pretending to own a small piece of grand, Georgian Edinburgh for a weekend was wonderful. We wanted for nothing.

Dinner at Restaurant Martin Wishart (+44 (0)131 553 3557) in Leith topped off the experience.
PS There are only three parking slots and they are valuable in that part of town.

Upon arrival at The Chester Residence I was disappointed… free-standing bath with plasma TV, Jo Malone toiletries and champagne chilling… I had theatre tickets booked – I might not have time for a bath!! My number one tip for anyone staying in this hotel would be to spend at least one evening in, and take advantage of the first-class facilities in the apartments, either by cooking (the kitchen was better equipped than my own!) or sending for take-away from somewhere recommended by the hotel. As for local bars – after the theatre we lounged in our PJs sipping Moet on the stylish leather sofas with the iPod (provided) on surround sound – who needs them?! I would, however, suggest venturing out for a morning stroll through Princes Street gardens – absolutely beautiful on a Sunday morning in early autumn.

Lovely modern apartment and friendly staff, we had a brilliant stay with our young baby tucked up in bed at the far end of the apartment. Pop to Valvona & Crolla (+44 (0)131 557 0088) on Multrees Walk for coffee.

Ideal place for a sharp-edged, snappy executive – probably male. Crisp lines, leather furniture, great bathroom, lots of space and everything one might need before and after a day of meetings. As a place to relax on holiday, perhaps less comfortable and inviting than other stays, but very clean and efficient.
