The Guestbook

We stayed in this hotel for 4 days and it was a lovely taste of luxury. We were more than happy enjoying the beautiful buildings and surroundings of the hotel, but we did venture out on the most amazing day trip. We had contacted the hotel prior to our visit to ask them to arrange a wine tour for us. We were not disappointed, as the sommelier had arranged for us to spend the day touring round tasting and purchasing some of the most delicious wine. The instructions were ready for us on arrival, complete with GPS coordinates for the SatNav so we didn't get lost.

You won't want to leave this hotel, the service is excellent and all smiles, and the views are stunning they also have the best vegetarian options in Provence. If you do venture out, drive up to the top of 1900m high Mount Ventoux in about 30 minutes, and smile smugly at the pilgrimage of cyclists. Then have lunch in the nearby town of Bedoin, which has some good local produce shops.

There is a cycle hire shop in Bedoin that's very helpful (www.larouteduventoux.com) and they have an excellent selection of top-notch racing bikes to hire and a selection of kit if you do not have everything you need.

I would strongly recommend that you consider hiring a car, unless you're prepared to cycle everywhere (which was actually good fun!) However, when we wanted to travel further afield we hired a taxi. We went literally five miles and it cost us €42 euro, now THAT was expensive – avoid if you can! The best market was in Carpentras – huge and really good fun. Have a good time!

As mentioned by other reviewers, Le Vieux Four offered an alternative to the delicious, but unchanging restaurant at Crillon le Brave. The hotel itself was so lovely that we didn't venture much further in the evenings, but for a lunch with an amazing view check out the award-winningly beautiful village of Seguret. Nestled in the Dentelles, it's only about 20 mins drive from Crillon and boasts a two Michelin-starred restaurant as well as winding streets opening out onto breath-taking vistas.

A smashing little hotel in a super position. My best day was spent taking advantage of the hotel's free bike loan. I hit the roads for a proper chance to explore the area. Added amusements were provided by the slightly sniffy looks I received from all the lycra-clad 'real' cyclists – of which there are many. To avoid this bring your own bike and figure-hugging atire – Crillon le Brave is more than used to acccomodating those who take this more seriously than I.
