The Guestbook

The Avenue Hotel is a haven. The rooms are spacious and elegant and, in the middle of winter looking out the windows on to a snow-covered courtyard makes it difficult to leave. The excellent Copenhagen Metro is a two-minute walk away and will take you to both the city centre and the airport quickly and comfortably. The hotel lounge with its oversize plush lounge chairs, excellent bar food and wine list makes for a very appealing place to spend a few hours. But the most compelling reason to stay at Avenue is the breakfast. Seasonal fruits, pastries baked at the hotel, cured meats, cheeses on a cheese cutter which is an engineering masterpiece, and boiled eggs in a cloth sack and there is another dozen or so choices after that. No better way to start the day.

Nice hotel and affordable by Copenhagen standards. Missoni and Bestlites everywhere. Good breakfast too. Location is good, very close to the Metro station allowing easy access to the whole city. We have found our regular base for our biannual trips to this beautiful city.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city and it seems Avenue Hotel is THE place to stay. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, a cosy home-from-home lounge to enjoy the delicious cocktails and great food. The lovely bartender had sushi ordered in for us to enjoy with our champagne one evening and it was superb. Cafe Victor on Saturday night was full of beautiful people and we had an amazing meal. The Royal Cafe in Denmark is the epitome of edgy Danish chic and a must go to for their delicious 'smushi'.

The Avenue is a great spot with a lovely reception, complete with bar and welcoming open fire. If you feel like venturing out though, Les Trois Cochons is a fabulous restaurant, they do a fixed number of set menu covers in what used to be an old butchery. Definitely book early to avoid disappointment. The brasserie at Nimb isn't a bad spot either if the weather is good and you can sit outside and overlook the fun of Tivoli. Brunch is also big in Copenhagen, spot by somewhere like Cafe 22 to sample the full spread, or if you're just in the mood for coffee and cakes in a local neighbourhood try The Living Room.

Excellent hotel, with great cocktails in the bar. The best restaurant we found was in the 'meatpacking' district, Fiskbaren, with lots of local ingredients in unusual dishes and a cool and relaxed atmosphere.

I would recommend hiring bikes from the hotel and enjoying a fast and relaxing ride around the wide cycle lanes of the city. It's a great way to take in what is quite a large city. We stumbled upon Kanalen restaurant in Christianshavn (www.restaurantkanalen.dk) and had a fantastic lunch there, sat in the sun by the side of a quiet canal. Beautifully interesting and well-presented food, with the bonus of a quality vegetarian option. Avenue Hotel was a relaxed place to stay, with friendly helpful staff and a fantastic homemade and healthy breakfast buffet.

Fabulous hotel with helpful staff and a lovely, welcoming lounge area. Our room was everything we needed and suitably cosy given the snowy weather. Would definately go back when I'm next in Copenhagen.

Hotel warm and friendly and very 'hygge'. Extremely helpful staff and serene but comfortable rooms. Ideally located and the metro system is extremely quick for getting round the city.

If you get the chance, book ahead and visit Noma for Rene Redzepi's unique take on Scandinavian terroir at Noma, with a welcome not usually seen in restaurants of its calibre. The Nassaaq menu is thoughtful, witty, sensitive in its use of ingredients and most of all delicious.

Great brasserie-style restaurant Cofoco at Abel Cathrines Gade 7 (+45 3313 6060) is a perfect spot for a cosy dinner with Danish flair. The long table which runs the length of the main dining room is a feature – communal but not overly so – making for a brilliantly buzzy atmosphere in the evenings.

For a flavour of Nyhavn head to Zeleste at 6 Store Strandstræde (+45 3316 0606) for a delicious seafood lunch. A cosy, intimate restaurant where they pack in the diners, Zeleste is just a few steps away from the main tourist haunts on Nyhavn itself, but feels like a world away. A real gem.

During my last visit to Copenhagen I visited the wonderfully delicious steak house A Hereford Beefstouw, situated in the must-see Copenhagen Tivoli Gardens. The steak house is a wonderful mix of design, atmosphere and impeccable service, making the evening a great all-encompassing experience focussed around the delicious food and wine of the highest quality.

A Hereford Beefstouw offers the perfect setting for most types of encounters. Whether you need a business casual setting for a business meeting, a relaxed atmosphere for the family dinner or a romantic dinner for two, there is always a corner in the restaurant or on its terrace that will provide the perfect setting. I would highly recommend the fillet steak, or for the real foodies, make it an unforgettable culinary experience by ordering the Wagyu...

To round off dinner, dont forget to visit the wonderful Tivoli Gardens to continue the fantastic night with music, fun rides or just a stroll in the beautiful settings around the restaurant.

Les Trois Cochons is a delightful bistro style restaurant, full of trendy young Copenhageners. Limited choice on the menu but each dish is done to perfection – the côte de boeuf is highly recommended! Excellent wine list too.

I recommend Honey Ryder Cocktail Lounge at Hotel 27 (www.hotel27.dk). The atmosphere is cool and the cocktails are absolutely sublime.
