Local restaurants
Formerly the Versace residence, Casa Casuarina is right next door to Hotel Victor and has a splendid Mediterranean restaurant – Loftin’s 1116 Ocean (+1 305 672 6604); worth visiting just to rubber-neck at Miami’s beautiful people – and the deliciously OTT decor. Devito South Beach (owned by – yes, you guessed it – Danny De Vito) on Ocean Drive is a SoBe see-and-be-seen Italian restaurant (+1 305 531 0911). Don’t take our word for it: let the man himself explain…
Local bars
News Café is a popular 24-hour bar, diner and corner shop at 800 Ocean Drive (+1 305 538 6397) – pop in for your daily caffeine and headlines fix, or go after-hours for low-key cocktails.
Local cafes
Something of a local legend, Cuban snack-shack David’s Café is cheap, tasty and open 24/7. So good, they opened it twice: visit the original at 1058 Collins Avenue (+1 305 534 8736), or David’s Café II at 1654 Meridian Avenue (+1 305 672 8707).

Nightlife
Just down the road from Hotel Victor, Mango’s Tropical Café at 900 Ocean Drive (+1 305 673 4422) offers light-hearted night-time entertainment, with all-singin’ all-dancin’ Latin showgal action and mariachi music. Keep tongues firmly in cheeks, please, and you’ll have a dandy time.
Diary
Late September–Early October The Miami Carnival is one of America’s biggest street festivals, the highlight of which is the carnival parade in early October. There are lots of events in the run-up to the parade, including the International Caribbean Music Festival in Bicentennial Park.
