I had the room in the picture – all white with a lovely roll-top bath in the room – everything was lovely, including my room service, which was reasonably priced and very delicious and having proper Sky TV (instead of a few select channels) was a nice suprise. Had a wonderful stay, two minutes from Turnham Green tube, easy to get to. I was travelling with business but would use this hotel again without question.

Heavenly High Road House is the perfect location for London lovers who hate the hustle, bustle and city centigrades. We spent a fabulous weekend using Chiswick as our base to reach the wonderful Bliss spa, only a mile or so away at 60 Sloane Avenue (+44 (0)20 7584 3888), and beautiful Kensington Palace (http://www.hrp.org.uk/) where we lunched in the laid back Orangery. What a place to while the afternoon away! Be sure to get there early for lunch though, as the queues become quite ridiculous from about 1pm. Great food, good wine and my purse didn't take a huge hit either. An excellent weekend get away all round!

If you're going to High Road House, you have to drop into Foubert's ice cream parlour (+44 (0)20 8995674), which is just around the corner; you'll pass it if you're coming from the tube station. Even in winter, grab a booth and a coffee and you can choose from about 25 flavours of gorgeous Italian ice cream. As a concession to the season, we had apple pie flavour! Fantastic!
