We ate in the town Saturday night at The Toll Bar (1 Lostwithiel Street) – a real surprise. The restaurant opens out at the back of the bar. The food was delicious and satisfying – we both opted for fish dishes – well presented and served by friendly staff. Our three-course meal with a bottle of wine and coffee was in the region of £80 for two and worth every penny. On Sunday we ate at Food for Thought on the quay: the asparagus starter was crunchy-beautiful and the locally sourced crab cakes very tasty. We both went for the roast pork which was an amazing joint of meat cooked to perfection and full of flavour – the crackling couldn't be faulted. Both these restaurants were in our opinion superior to Hansons restaurant at Fowey Hall where we ate Friday night.
The staff at Fowey Hall hotel were excellent; however, for us, two negative comments would be the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and the advance allocation of breakfast tables.
