- Request a sea or a garden view; it’s worth paying the little bit extra. We also loved the Bastian Suite with its sea-view balcony and swing; the Princess Suite has a private terrace as well as a balcony.

- 1788 has a versatile and varied modern menu using the freshest ingredients, often organic. As the hotel’s so close to the famous Chinese fishing nets, it offers tempting seafood.

- The tables inside the small dining room are lovely, but for a romantic dinner, eat outside under the stars.
