Le Vieux Four (+33 (0)4 90 12 81 39) is Crillon’s other option for dinner, and a fine, unfussy one it is, too, with a lovely terrace. La Gousse d’Ail in Bédoin (+33 (0)4 90 92 16 87) is more rustic, with robust, herby cuisine. A little further afield, La Nesque in Villes-sur-Auzon (+33 (0)4 90 61 82 10) is a super local with a fine courtyard and good regional food. On market day in Carpentras, the best staging posts are Bar-Brasserie Rich at the end of Rue de la République, and the bars on Place Charles de Gaulle, near the cathedral. Bistrot de l’Industrie on Quai de la Charité in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (04 90 38 00 40) makes a pleasing riverside pitstop for a cold beer and a pizza on market day. Chalet Reynard near the summit of the Mont Ventoux (+33 (0)4 90 61 84 55) is an Alpine brasserie and popular with view-seekers and Lycra-clad cyclopaths.
