Trullo Fico

Puglia, Italy

Style Cultured conical hideaway

Setting Verdant Valle d’Itria

Traditional trullo on the outside, sleek modern design den on the inside; Trullo Fico comes with Eames and Philippe Starck furniture, Tom Dixon Jack Lamps and lashings of retro style. Along with the colour-rich Puglian countryside, sound-system-equipped outdoor pool and three bold boudoirs, this luxury self-catering property has owners who have thought of every little detail, stocking the house with a wet-weekend’s worth of toys, games, entertainment (there’s even a trampoline and tepee) and delicious local treats.

Floor plan

  • Bedrooms

The White Room is the largest of the bedrooms, and has a double bed, triple wardrobe, an antique chest of drawers, an Eames rocker, Tom Dixon Jack Lamp and views of the patio and pool. There’s space for an additional bed and cot to be added if required.

The Retro Room is next to the White Room, decorated with a striking zebra head and Kartell Componibili bedside cabinets. The room can be arranged as either a cosy double, or twins surrounded by toys. There’s space for a cot or extra bed to be added.

The Orange Room has citrus-bright furnishings including a Philippe Starck Ghost chair, mirrored bedside tables, double wardrobes and sole use of the Chocolate Wetroom. There’s a double bed, and the room faces towards the back of the house.

  • Kitchen

The space known as the Living Room includes the kitchen and a sociable communal area. The kitchen is petite but perfectly formed, with a Smeg oven and hob, capacious American-style fridge-freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Glassware and china is kept in a cupboard opposite the Orange room (there is another microwave stashed away there too). Pull up one of the stylishly mismatched chairs around the eight-seater dining table and admire the Kartell Ferruccio Laviani lighting.
  • Living room

It’s clear why the room called the Snug got its name: a 1950s Danish sofa, a retro teak Danish armchair, retro furnishings, a fur rug and throws, bookshelves cut into the stone walls, and cleverly placed lighting add up to an intimate and cosy space, topped by the beautiful trullo roof. There’s a flatscreen TV, DVD player and a range of CDs – sit back and relax by the crackling log fire.
  • Dining room

Eat in the open-plan kitchen, around the dining table. There’s also an eight-person table under the bamboo-shaded alfresco dining area.
  • Poolside

Trullo Fico’s pool sits in the centre of a large white stone patio. It’s a seductive suntrap, with a large dining area and BBQ on one side, and a shaded seating area on the other. Pick from a range of lounging options: bamboo-shaded sofas with oversized cushions, sundecks, deckchairs, hammocks or a beanbag sofa.
  • Private parking

There is plenty of free parking on the street bordering the property.
