What I liked
Everything about this hotel is well planned and sophisticated. From the sheets to the towels to the dining ware, everything smacks of subtle, detail-oriented sophistication. The front desk staff is incredibly helpful. The bell staff and others are on hand when you need them, always smiling and never intrusive. The view out on Saint-Sulpice is peaceful and charming. All of Paris's best boutiques and wonderful restaurants are at your doorstep. Generously sized bathroom by Paris standards, a good desk with reading lamp, cozy slippers and robe – exactly what you need. Well worth the money. Will definitely be coming back here.
What could be better
Really, nothing. International cable would have helped.
Local recommendations
Definitely recommend Flore for coffee á la terrace. Repetto on Rue du Four for ballet flats. Annick Goutal for candles. Des Petit Hauts for cool Parisian clothes. And we had the most amazing birthday lunch at Le Grand Véfour in the Palais Royale – totally memorable.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Hôtel Récamier in Place St. Sulpice in the 6th Arrondissement. As serious travellers we like to spend our money on little luxuries that are quiet and discreet. And this hotel is exactly to our requirements. Tucked away in the corner of the square, it is ideally situated in proximity to all the shopping, sightseeing and eating places of the Latin Quarter. Close by is a metro stop, so travelling across town for dinner is no problem. The staff are friendly, considerate and highly efficient. I would highly recommend the hotel to any travellers, particularly in the 50-60 age bracket.

What a lovely hotel with such friendly and helpful staff. The entire hotel was beautifully decorated. Check out the nearby Prescription Cocktail club for a nightcap, it's a great scene with terrific drinks and excellent bartenders.

'The best thing about London is Paris', so said Diana Vreeland, and the best thing about Paris must be the profiteroles filled with ice-cream drizzled with hazelnuts and bathed in chocolate sauce at Cafe de Flore, an easy walk from Hotel Recamier. It oozes French glamour and is a favourite of Ines de la Fressange, who recommends not wearing red since you'll clash with the red decor downstairs. The salade Colette with shrimp and grapefruit is the perfect light lunch.

Very friendly and helpful service from all staff, by far the best we have ever received in Paris. There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants nearby and we found somewhere good to eat both nights of our stay by just walking into a nice looking restaurant with no reservation.

The hotel is in a perfect location in St Germain, with a great buzz nearby but in a quiet location. The Marais is normally the place to go for falafel but Maoz in St Germain does it very well too. L'Epigramme is a great small restaurant in the area. The three course menu is reasonable and the atmosphere is fantastic. The food is very tasty too! Booking is essential as both times we were there it was completely full.
