Golden Age greatness

In-town oasis

Picture a classic Côte d’Azur home from the first half of the 20th century, and chances are you’re dreaming of Belle Epoque Villa. Built in 1926, it’s an exceptional example of classic Riviera architecture, but one that’s luckily not lacking in modern luxuries. The villa, in a quiet, residential part of Antibes, has been thoughtfully renovated, maintaining its old-world charms while incorporating contemporary design and conveniences. There’s a perfumed Provençal walled garden, and the olive-and-cypress-lined grounds are also scented by rosemary and lavender. The city’s old town is a scenic stroll away, as is La Salis Beach, which has a postcard-worthy panorama back to the storied streets from its shores. Meander the same labyrinthine lanes as Picasso did when he lived in the city in 1946 – and don’t miss the museum in his honour, which houses one of the world’s greatest collections of his art.
