Built in the 1880s, luxury retreat Annandale’s fully-restored Homestead villa is a five-bedroom all-suite stay. Relax into a slower pace of life, breakfasts in a farmhouse kitchen, bracing coastal walks, leisurely afternoons on the veranda and evenings by the fireplace. This private stay is part of Annandale’s working coastal farm by New Zealand’s second-largest bay, and has access to the retreat’s gardens, walking and cycle paths, and private chefs that specialise in farm-to-table cuisine. Guests of the Homestead have exclusive use of Annandale’s outdoor leisure facilities and the ability to add on accommodation in loft-style Stables.

First Glance

  • Inside this fully restored 19th-century house you’ll find hardwood floors, elegant decor, a handful of original furnishings and modern fittings; warm yet neutral hues accentuate the dazzling blues and greens of the surrounding landscape.
  • The large honey-hued kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and kitchenware and has views out to the lawns and Annandale’s kitchen gardens; there’s ample counter space, including a central island and a long farmhouse table for cosy breakfasts (the provisions for which are included too). And adjoining Butler’s pantry links to the bunk room via a hidden staircase.
  • The warm and spacious living room has cushy armchair seating, a fireplace and direct access to a sun porch at the side of the villa.
