Sheryl Garratt backpacked around the world in her teens, then like most journalists has led a double life when it came to travel, staying in some of the best hotels in the world on press trips, but booking mainly budget boutique hotels when away with family. She was editor of The Face magazine for eight years, and now works for various monthly magazines and national newspapers on everything from aid issues in the developing world to luxury brands. She lives in Deal, Kent, with her husband, son, cats and chickens.
