Born in Montreal to a Turkish father and an English mother, the fashion designer launched his now coveted London-based ready-to-wear label Erdem in 2005. His unique prints and patterns soon made him a red-carpet regular – he can count Gwyneth Paltrow, Alexa Chung and Julianne Moore as fans. He left Canada to study at London’s Royal College of Art (where he met his Mr Smith, Phil Joseph), then after graduating relocated to New York before returning to set up base in Bethnal Green, where he now lives with his twin sister, Sara.
