Our favourite rooms

All four villas have a private pool, terrace and (natch) show-stealing sea views. Larger groups or those with Little Smiths should plump for Villas 3 or 4.

Poolside

Each villa has its own pool set on a private terrace, with sunloungers and views that sweep down the hillside to the Aegean.

Spa

There’s no spa, but just say the word and staff can arrange a massage, manicure or pedicure in your villa with a local practitioner.

Packing tips

Odds are, you’ll be spending long hours staring at the scenery, so bring something to capture it: a Polaroid camera or a sketchpad, say.

Also

The four friends behind the View were drawn to Naxos for its year-round appeal. The island’s mild even in midwinter, but to keep the villas extra cosy in the off-season, they’ve installed underfloor heating.

Children

All ages are welcome in Villas 3 and 4; guests in Villas 1 and 2 must be aged 14 or over.

Sustainability efforts

High-tech eco measures have been baked into the View’s design. There are solar panels, advanced insulation and heat exchange systems for efficient energy usage, and a water collection system for use in the grounds.

Hotel restaurant

There’s no restaurant, but the conditions are right for you to get your cordon bleu on. Each villa has a full kitchen stocked with staples including eggs, milk, bread and sausages, and if you send your dream Greek-island grocery list ahead, staff will have everything waiting for you when you arrive.

That said, if you’d rather leave it to the pros, the View can bring in a private chef (additional costs apply).

Hotel bar

Each villa has a wine fridge with a curated selection of bottles. If you have a thirst for something in particular, speak to staff and they’ll see if they can’t rustle something up.

The View Naxos sits in a hushed spot high among the Vivlos hills, set apart from the high-season hubbub but still within easy reach of the old town and the island’s beaches.

Planes

It’s a 15-minute drive from Naxos Airport; transfers are included in your stay.

Automobiles

You’ll want wheels for exploring the island. Speak to staff in advance and they’ll sort the hire car, scooter or motorcycle of your choice and have it waiting in your villa’s private car park when you arrive.

Other

The ferry from Piraeus to Naxos takes a little over six hours. It’s a 20-minute drive from the port to the View; free transfers can be arranged on request.

Worth getting out of bed for

Your local guide can book watersports sessions including kitesurfing and snorkelling, advise on the island’s hiking trails, and point you in the direction of the best beaches for swimming, sun-soaking and cocktail sipping. Plaka Beach is a long golden stretch on the west coast, and Alyko Beach’s unspoiled white sands are fringed by a cedar forest.

You don’t have to go far to commune with deities – the Temple of Demeter, built from Naxian marble in the sixth century BC, is a short drive from the View. A little further afield, follow the footpath from the old town to the islet of Palatia, where you’ll find the Portara, a huge marble lintel of an unfinished temple to Apollo. Time it right, and it makes a striking spot to watch the sunset, too.

Local restaurants

For the traditional taverna experience, make the pilgrimage to the village of Apeiranthos for flaky feta pastries, cinnamon-spiced aubergine and garlicky meat stews at Lefteris.

In the old town, To Elliniko spins family recipes (thanks, Mama Katerina) into elegant dishes packed with fresh, island-grown ingredients and served to tables on a fairylit patio.

Local bars

At Naxos Apothecary, you can browse candles and hand salves heady with island botanicals, then head out to the terrace for a bottle of white overlooking the Temple of Apollo.

Right in the bustle of the old town, Belman somehow still feels like stumbling on a local secret. Here, Naxos’ coolest mixologists pour pickle-garnished craft cocktails inside a classic Cycladic sugar cube.
